This was the home of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, America’s only President elected four times. Roosevelt visited Warm Springs hoping that the naturally warm waters found in the small town would help ease the paralysis he suffered from polio. Roosevelt’s home, which he also designed, contains many original furnishings including his wheelchair he designed himself using a kitchen chair. The sun deck overlooks a deep wooded ravine with panoramic views. The therapeutic pools museum is located one mile from the house. These 88-degree waters originate 3,800 feet below the earth's surface. A fund-raising campaign is underway to build a new museum honoring this great world leader.
Explore the life of FDR in Georgia at the FDR Memorial Museum. Featured is the “Unfinished Portrait” he was sitting for at the time of his death in 1945. The facility showcases FDR’s 1938 Ford Convertible with the hand controls as well as the “Tally Ho”, his stagecoach used in victory parades. Interactive features offer visitors a glimpse of Roosevelt’s rural south and how his experiences in Georgia impacted his life and decisions as President. A short video, narrated by Walter Cronkite, shows what an inspiration FDR was to his fellow countrymen. Visitors can tour FDR’s Little White House, as it was on April 12, 1945, when he left it for the last time. Additional features include the Servants’ Quarters, Guest Quarters, the Walk of American Stones & Flags, and the additional museum located at the historic Pools & Springs that first brought the future president to Warm Springs, Georgia.
